D.C. Trip

DC participants,

Everything is going great with the trip planning.  Our final itinerary is almost done and we are in the process of setting a date for our parents night where we will give out all the details, from hotels to travel plans.  Remember, final payments are due before Spring Break of the remaining balance on your account.

Please read the following if you are interested in participating in our Arlington Contest (this is for the students):

During our experience to Washington, DC, we will be visiting Arlington National Cemetery.  One of the opportunities that we have arranged for includes the participation in the National Wreath Laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, with the United States National Honor Guard.  This opportunity will be available to only four students on the trip.  In order to earn that opportunity (this is optional), please answer the following question, in whatever format you feel most fits, and turn it into Mr. Hammerman by March 24, 2010:

“For the almost four million people who visit annually, Arlington National Cemetery represents many different things.  For some, it is a chance to walk among headstones that chronicle American history; for many, it is an opportunity to remember and honor the nation’s was heroes; and for other, it is a place to say a last farewell during funeral services for a family member or friend.” ~ http://www.arlingtoncemetery.org

Read Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address in which Lincoln speaks of the remembrance of those who struggled, those who died, and what they fought for during the Civil War.  Next, take the words of Lincoln speech and explain the significance behind the wreath laying ceremony at Arlington’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and what it means, to you, to be included in such a ceremony.
