Summer Reading Requirement 2015

Summer Reading Requirement 2015

Falcon Cove Middle School strives to encourage students to maintain and improve their academic abilities year round. In order to achieve this goal, students are required to read a minimum of one novel over the summer. All students are encouraged to select high interest books which are both grade and age appropriate. Upon returning to school in August, students will complete an assignment based on the novel he/she read.

ATTENTION PARENTS OF STUDENTS STARTING 7th GRADE IN AUGUST:

Prior to entering the 7th grade, all students must provide a Florida Certificate of Immunization (DH 680) stating that their immunizations are complete for 7th grade entry. Please note that in addition to compliance with all other required immunizations, children entering the 7th grade in Florida schools must have received one dose of the tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine and two doses of the varicella vaccine.
Your child may need additional immunizations and/or you may just need to turn in the updated DH 680 form.
You may request the form from your childís physicianís office or visit a public health center.
More information regarding public health centers can be found at: http://broward.floridahealth.gov/
Only original 680 DH forms are accepted, please do not turn in copies or faxes. The form must have the signature of the responsible healthcare provider, either by hand or by means of an electronic signature verification ID from Florida SHOTS.
Please review the form prior to turning it in to the registrar’s office because forms with errors will not meet state requirements.

Algebra I Honors Study Prep (Recommended)

Student who are taking Algebra Honors this coming school year:

There are three great opportunities for you to prepare for the upcoming school year. As the Algebra Honors class is a high school credit class the rigor is higher than previous classes. If you are looking to prepare over the summer, below are three great resources for you to use.

[ https://www.tenmarks.com/consumer/signup ]TenMarks is an excellent online program to help review Pre-Algebra skills most needed for an Algebra Honors course. Normally the program is $39.95 per student, this summer they are offering the program FOR FREE. Below is more detailed description of the program, as well directions to create an account. When you are completing the program it is highly recommended that you do NOT use a calculator, as calculators, next year, are not guaranteed in every chapter. Good luck! See you next year!

The Summer Packet was designed for student who will be taking Algebra Honors this coming school year. It is a review of the top skills needed from Pre-Algebra and 7th grade Advanced classes and textbooks. When you are working on it, it is highly recommended that you do NOT use a calculator, as calculators, next year, are not guaranteed in every chapter. The answers are included therefore you can check your work as you move along. Good luck!

Yes we know there are almost 200 questions in the study packets… but you have 10 weeks of summer. That works out to less than 3 questions a day and 20 questions a week… which in turn will give them an better understanding of Algebra I next year. Which is one of your FIRST HS credit Math class with an EOC!!!

See you next year!
